Restoration

Renovating an older building can be highly rewarding! Preserving construction techniques and materials no longer used or repurposing a structure that’s lost its usefulness and become a blight to the community reduces waste, maximizes use of existing materials and infrastructure, and preserves the historic, architectural, and aesthetic character of an area. At Schaeffer Design Associates, we LOVE to repurpose old building! We have a very strong understanding of means & methods of how these old buildings were constructed and how to renovate them to obtain an additional 50 years of use.

It is essential to select a design and construction team that has substantial experience in restoring older buildings. Utilizing a design construction team that does not have experience in this area of rehabilitation can be detrimental and costly to your project. Often times older buildings do not meet code. Trying to renovate the buildings to meet code is typically unachievable or extremely expensive. Even more important to understanding how older buildings are constructed is the understanding of how to work within the available building codes in such a way so that the restoration process is affordable. Choosing a team that is knowledgeable in how to do this is paramount.
